Closing the loop on community feedback and the outcome of the pop-up park proposal
Community engagement activities summary
During our first engagement in 2022, we asked the community for feedback on the proposed design. Half of the responses viewed the pop-up as a positive community initiative and half were against the design. After reviewing the feedback, we developed a revised concept plan and consulted the community again in 2023. Results again showed, close to an even split for and against the design, with 51 per cent opposed to the revised concept design.
Positive feedback included the open public space, kids’ play area, seating options, shaded areas, tables and eating and drinking spaces. The negative responses were community was concerned with traffic flow issues, thoughts that it wouldn’t be money well spent and a general lack of support for the project.
Outcome
At the Ordinary Council meeting on 19 December 2023, Council decided not to go ahead with the trial pop up park at Alma Village because most community members didn’t support the proposal. The proposed road closure was the main point of community concern.
Background
A trial pop-up park at the intersection of Orrong Crescent and Alma Road, Caulfield North, was proposed for summer 2023–2024.
In 2022 community consultation on the initial concept plan for the pop-up park was held and the feedback led to a revised concept plan. Further consultation was held in June and July 2023 and a Public notice was advertised inviting submissions on a 'Genuine Traffic Diversion Experiment' to enable us to close the road temporarily. The community engagement process has now been completed. We thank everyone who contributed feedback through the various engagement opportunities provided.
