Community feedback on the space was reviewed and Council endorsed Option Two as the preferred concept design at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 21 March 2023.
Option Two reflects the community's preferences and addresses the need for a balanced distribution of recreational activities throughout the area.
Project background
The old Rosstown aged care facility in Ames Avenue Carnegie, and a recently acquired property at 10 Ames Avenue, is set to used to provide more open space in Glen Eira.
The Open Space Strategy Refresh in 2020 identified that there were gaps in the provision and distribution of small local open spaces. A ‘very high’ recommendation from this strategy was to:
“Provide a new local open space south of Neerim Road that is accessible to people living and working in the Carnegie Major Activity Centre and Murrumbeena Neighbourhood Centre for the existing and forecast population”.
The space that was preferred by the community and endorsed by Council was Option Two (refer to the document library at right for the concept design). This space provides a passive open space and includes:
- a nature play area
- adventure garden area
- gathering space with picnic shelters
- seating areas throughout the space
- lawn area.
