Project update
Concept plans for Mackie Road Reserve Playspace were endorsed at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 8 November 2023.
We are now progressing with detailed designs with this planned to be completed by 30 June 2024. Construction will then follow with timelines dependent on future funding and budget allocation.
Background
A new play space is on the horizon for Mackie Road Reserve in Bentleigh East.
The need for more open space in the reserve, to cater for its growing popularity, was identified in the Mackie Road Reserve Masterplan.
To increase the size of the park and make it possible to improve the recreational facilities on offer, Council acquired the properties at 64 and 66 Mackie Road, which back onto the reserve from Mackie Road. A concept design for the space was then developed, which centres on a play space and picnic facilities for all of the community to enjoy. The concept design currently includes:
- an all-ages and all-abilities play space
- opportunities for unstructured natural play
- a public toilet
- barbecue facilities
- a picnic shelter and seating area
- social seating
- pathways with solar bollard lighting.
The timeline for the play space to be constructed has not been confirmed.
